Alcohol in vanilla, sauces and flavourings
Alcohol often arrives as a carrier rather than a headline ingredient.
Vanilla extract is made with alcohol. Vanilla essence, powder or paste may be alcohol-free; check the label.
Some cooking sauces, glazes and desserts list wine, rum or liqueur directly. Others hide it inside 'flavour'.
When in doubt, choose products with a halal logo or contact the manufacturer.
